Adjusting Your Application to Match What Your Skin Is Doing That Day

Step 1: Read your skin before you open anything. Before you reach for a brush, look at your skin in natural light. Is it tight and flaky at the cheeks? Shiny and already producing oil at the nose? A combination of both? Skin shifts daily based on sleep, hydration, hormones, and weather. A two-second check before you start tells you which application technique will work with your skin today rather than against it.

Step 2: Match your brush to what you see. For dry or tight skin days, the goal is to add coverage without emphasizing texture or pulling at the skin. Stippling deposits product in light taps rather than dragging it across a dry surface.

The 967 Soft Square Foundation brush is built for this. Its flat square head lets you dot liquid or cream foundation onto the skin and tap it in with gentle pressing motions. That stippling action places product without disturbing the skin underneath, which is what prevents patchy, flaky results on days when your skin needs more care.

For oily skin days, the goal is even coverage that stays put without sliding. Buffing works better than stippling here because it presses product into the skin and removes excess in the same motion.

Reach for the 956 Slanted Precision Kabuki. Its tapered, densely packed bristles buff foundation in small circular motions that work product into the skin rather than laying it on top. The slanted edge lets you reach the sides of the nose and the corners of the face where oily skin tends to break down fastest.

For balanced or combination days, a lighter hand and a lighter brush gives you the most natural finish without overcorrecting in either direction.

Dry skin needs product pressed in gently with minimal friction. Oily skin needs product buffed in with enough pressure to grip.
